Providing freelance services comes with the freedom to work when you want how you want, but it also has its own set of problems. For example how do you get rid of a bad client? What is considered a bad client? And how do you get rid of a bad client without destroying your professional reputation.
A bad client can be a person whom you have agreed to contract with providing freelance services who doesn't comply with the agreed upon terms, or he may be into micro managing not giving you the freedom to do the job you were contracted to do or, the worst, is forgetful when it comes to paying for the project when it is completed.
How to Get Rid of a Bad Client
So how does one go about ending the working relationship with a bad client? If it is your first time providing freelance services for the company you could give the client a second chance in hopes he may have had a bad day. There is even the option of speaking with the client to advise them of how they are impeding the progress of the work by the constant interference. But if this has been an ongoing business relationship, and the micro managing is driving you crazy, and the payment is never forwarded when scheduled, then it is time to say goodbye. After all, the freelance services you provide are valuable and there are other clients waiting to do business with you.
Getting rid of a bad client can be as simple as advising him, before the end of the project, that you have other commitments scheduled and won't be available to work for his company in the future. Yes, you want to end the relationship in a professional and as pleasant as possible manner since he can be used as a reference for future prospective jobs with other companies. By advising the client before the completion of the project, you are allowing him the opportunity to search for someone else to provide freelance services to assist him with future projects.
Unfortunately, when providing freelance services you will, from to time to time, run into a bad client. Just remember being a freelancer means you have the choice with whom you chose to provide services. By conducting yourself professionally you can get rid of a bad client and still maintain your professional reputation.
