Boys do not look for physical beauty. Physical beauty is everywhere, and it is extremely difficult to not see it. It is how the world is made. Because boys, and men, have eyes, they cannot escape it. Wherever they go in the world, it is there, whether it be at the supermarket, at a dance, at church, or in the media.
Beauty first appears at birth, in the form of a beautiful and compelling little baby, and then it just flourishes and increases from there. And as it is for the man, so it is the same for the woman.
Normal boys have an inherent attraction for women. It is in their genes, and it is deep in the warp and woof of their soul. Warp and woof is defined by the New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy as "The essential foundation or base of any structure or organization".
Boys and men are attracted to women because their voices are beautiful and melodious, their bodies have an intoxicating and mesmerizing shape, and their skin texture is tremendously appealing. In addition, women's eyes can be deep and flirtatious, and their mouths happy and inviting. Women's natural vocal range and patterns are like beautiful music to a man's ears. It is inescapable. This is why the population of the earth is in the billions. The promise and hope of physical, sexual union are what many dreams are made of.
Notwithstanding all of this, the beauty and allure of women are not the most important things in life, even though the emotions of man often pitilessly draw him forward to face his Medusa. In Greek mythology, Medusa was one of the Gorgons, a monstrous feminine creature. Her gaze could turn whoever she looked upon to stone. Like Medusa, men's gaze can turn them to mush.
The natural beauty of women should not be the most important thing to a man because the inner beauty and habits of a woman are the true beauty, no matter what the rest of her body is like. When I was young, compelling and eligible, I met women at dances and other social engagements who were very physically attractive and "needed" my attention, but, often, when I got to know some of them, their character dawned upon me, and it became obvious that I did not like them, and their physical beauty did not matter, and so I had to escape.
But that did not stop me from falling prey to another Medusa, though I now knew a secret about values and character. A man's knowing about values and character helps him appreciate people who have it. If a man is at a dance or other social occasion, he is more likely to pay closer attention to a women of character than to a woman of beauty with obvious personality and character flaws.
But the older I get, I see that my greatest devotion should be to character, for without it, Medusa can lure me in and turn me to stone. The problem is always there, and the feminine image and nature is always there to grab my attention.
And the older I get, and I the closer I draw to the Divine Creator, the more I know that I can get great peace from the Holy Ghost, whose power can carry you into the eternity and can thwart the greatest womanly figures of our age, though it may be a little difficult at times.
