How to kill bedbugs

After reading the numerous articles on Bedbugs, I just had to share what I have learned.  By now we all know how we get these pests in our homes, but did you know that once they are in, they do not leave.  You can never really rid yourself of the little monsters, but the good news is that you can control them.  The reason that they are so hard to get rid of is simple.  They are so small and multiply so rapidly that when you find a ‘nest’, eradicate it and clean everything possible in sight, it is the ‘not in sight” areas that cause us the re-infestation:  seams of your headboard, the baseboards, and the tiny seams in your mattresses and even the inner lining of your beddings.  All the places that you cannot get to easily.  So, short of getting rid of grandmas antique bed, or that very precious night-stand that you picked up from a yard sale, let us look at the control method.

First, get ‘JT Eaton’s’ treatment for bedbugs.  You must be very careful with this stuff, as it is very toxic to animal and humans.  Read the directions and instructions carefully.  The working ingredients are pyrethrums, piperonyl butoxide and peytroleum distillate.

Next, get every washable item possible out of the area; wash in the hottest water possible, rinse twice; and dry on the hottest level that will not ruin the article, otherwise use the correct temperature and dry twice.

Now before you replace anything that you have just cleaned back into the room, use the bug treatment.  Take the mattress off the bed along with the box spring, bunk board or in the case of a pillow-top, spray one side, flip it then spay the other side, generously ‘spray’ the whole mattress and springs, focusing on the seams and any tucks and tie-tacks.  ‘Stream’ spray the bed frame, especially the joints, corners and any slats. Place the sprayed items back in place.

Next you want to effectuate a barrier-the baseboards, (where it meets the floor is the main focus if you have carpets), any crevices, heat vents, outlets for cable lines, phone jacks and door jams.  If you have hardwood floors, spray the floor lightly and spread with a sponge mop, (take care after this because the floor will become very slippery, but will not harm your wood.)

Close the room off and leave undisturbed for about an hour, after which time you can get some, not all, the spray off the floor, (an
