Golden Retrievers are the cutest dog breed their is. You may be looking for a dog for your family and found a Golden Retriever. Maybe you are wondering what are all the characteristics of a Golden Retriever. Here is all the main things you should now about this type of dog breed.

Origin

The Retrievers came from Scotland in the 1800s. They are a mix between Flat-Coated Retriever, Tweed Wáter Spaniel, they received the name the Golden Flat-Coat. A time later they received the name we now them by . The Golden Retrievers when they first started being popular they where recognized by the AKC in 1925.

Description

The Retriever is considered to be a medium size dog. They have a water resistant coat which can be straight or wavy. Their color can be a creamish color or a yellowish golden color. The Golden Retriever is a perfect and beautiful dog breed.

Temperament

This type of dog breed is a lovable and very intelligent. They are considered to be a great family dog since they do well with small children. This type of dog is considered to be great around strangers and other dogs. Since they won´t attack anyone they are still considered to be a great guard dog, since they bark loud if they sense danger. They can be used in many different ways such as, hunting, retrieving, tracking, agility, performing tricks, competitive obedience and they love water.

Exercise and Grooming

The Golden Retriever is a very hyper dog if he does not get enough exercise. You can take them for walks. If you do not have enough time to do that then they also like to play with balls and do tricks. If you do not exercise this type of dog then they may become destructive.

Grooming this dog is very necessary. They loose a lot of their hair which means they need to be comb regularly and shampooed when needed. You can use a bristle brush but you need to be very gentle.

Height, Weight, and Health Problems

The Golden Retrievers can grow from 22 to 24 inches (male) and a female Retriever from 20 to 22 inches. The male can way 60 to 80 pounds and the female 55 to 70 pounds.  The Retrievers are a type of dog breed that can easily get sick. They can get congenital eye defects, Von Willebrand´s disease, heart problems and skin allergies. They need to be checked by a veterinarian regularly. They gain weight very fast so you need to watch how much you feed them.

The Golden Retrievers are a  very special types of dog breed. They live about 10 to 12 years.  If you are considering buying a golden Retriever you need to ask around and get other peoples opinions. Hope this helped!
