It would have been really difficult for me to pick a favourite verse in a book that has thousands of wonderful promises and blessings, but the Lord has been so gracious to me by referring me to this verse over and over again in my life experiences.
I have had some experiences in life that have shown that it is only God’s gracious favour that has distinguished me. He does that all the time. At certain times I had thought that things were slow for me, but God has proven to me over and over again that He is never late.
My favourite verse is Psa 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
God is forever faithful to His promises. He is forever prompt. I really like that part of the scripture that says He will not withhold any good thing from them that walk uprightly before him. Not that I am carrying a chip on my shoulder bragging that I am upright. I cannot do that by myself, I am only the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
The fact that my uprightness does not even come from what I do excites me most. What can I do to impress God? My righteousness, good deeds, and nice tendencies are like rags before God. He puts me right and then crowns me with loving-kindness.
I noticed that I am prone to get anxious about issues. I think it is because I am task-oriented and goal conscious, I get really worried when I do not see my plans work out the way I set out. God has really been good to reassure me that no good thing will be withheld from me. It is just a matter of time
This scripture has also helped me not to compare myself with my peers. God has a plan for everyone. He makes all things beautiful in its time. God can never be late. We humans are the ones in a hurry. We live in a hurry sick culture that wants everything done right now. But our God is a God of process. He takes His time just for our good.
Psalm 84:11 is my anchor when am about to slip into depression. It is my antidote against anxiety. It reassures me that God is always thinking about me. Whatever others have God gave it to them, the same God is generous and gracious to give to me in due time. That is why I love the Message Bible rendition of Philippians 4:6 - Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns.
I am at peace because I know that God is at work to do of His good pleasure in me, for me and through me. His thoughts towards me are not only numerous, they are also precious.
