You have found out that your mom does not want a material item for her birthday, which takes away all of the bath product, jewelry and clothing options.  Fortunately, there are many things that you can get for her that would fulfill her requirements and still make a great gift.  Consider the following ideas.

Spa experience

A lot of mothers have worked very hard throughout their lives taking care of everyone else.  They may love to be pampered themselves.  You could get them an experience to a spa.  For instance, you could get them a massage.  You could get them other beauty services like facials, manicures, pedicures, etc.  You can buy these services a la carte, let her pick out what she would enjoy, or look for a package that many salons and spas offer.  You can get her a one-time experience or pay for several different days' worth of services.

Theater experience

A lot of women love to go to the theater to see plays, the opera, ballets, concerts and more.  You can consider getting your mother tickets to a particular show.  If you have a lot of money to spend, then you can even get her a season pass to a particular place.  You can ask her what she would like to see or surprise her.  This can be an inexpensive experience at a community theater or a very pricey nationally-touring production.

Lessons

Your mother may love to learn something new.  If she has always wanted to learn about something, then you can get her lessons in it.  It could be a sport such as tennis or golf.  It could be an instrument such as the piano.  It could be learning a new language.  Think about what she would enjoy going to.

Vacation

Many women would love to get away from it all.  You can send her on a vacation.  You could make a special mother/child trip or you can send her with someone else.  You can sign her up for a tour or something relatively all-inclusive like a spa or a resort or you can plan it yourself or let her plan it. 

There are many other non-material presents to consider.  You could take her out for a special meal or make one yourself.  You could also get her a membership to somewhere like a zoo or a museum.  Consider those and the above gifts when making your selection.
