There are many who would prefer not to receive material gifts. Perhaps they do not feel like they need anything or they do not have any room for anything in their home. This can present a true challenge if it is your father's birthday and you want to get him something special. Consider the following non-material gifts.
Give him a sports experience
Your father might enjoy a sports experience. If he likes to play golf, for instance, they you could take him golfing or pay for him to go one or more times. You can also take him to a sports game such as a football game, hockey game, baseball game, basketball game and more. Do not forget the extra costs such as parking, food, etc. The price for this will range greatly depending on what game and seats you choose. He might even be okay with a local game such as a minor league game.
Take him to a concert or show
Many men love to see concerts or shows. If you know that a singer he would like to see is going to be in town, then you could consider that for his gift. If he likes the theater, then you could find a play to take him to. Consider the different shows that he might enjoy.
Vacation
Your father might enjoy a vacation to make long-lasting memories. You could go with him, send him with his wife or send him with someone else. You could send him on an all-inclusive cruise for instance. He may enjoy a European vacation or a tour of Walt Disney World. You could also take him to a special event such as Comic-Con in San Diego, California, if the timing is good.
Treat him to a special meal
Your father might like a special meal to celebrate his birthday. You could take him to a special restaurant or make him his favorite foods yourself.
Lessons
Your father might enjoy learning something new through lessons. You could get him lessons to play an instrument he has always wanted to play like the guitar. You could get him photography lessons.
Membership
Your father might enjoy membership somewhere. There are museums, zoos and even places like Walt Disney World where you can get yearly passes. The prices range depending on the organization.
Just because you do not get your father a material gift, you can still get him something spectacular. Consider the above ideas.
