I have seen quite a few articles criticizing both Nicole Richie and the system that sent her to jail for a very short period of time and I believe this is totally unfair. Think about it: what is Nicole Richie's job? Is she an actress? No. Is she a singer? No. Is she working in television? She appears on TV but that doesn't make it a job. So, the answer to the question is: Nicole Richie's job is to look pretty and be famous. Or the other way around, whichever you prefer. Being famous is a job and Nicole, following in the footsteps of her friend Paris, does her job well.
It used to be a time in Hollywood when being pretty (and probably knowing the right people) was enough to be famous. It used to be a time when being a good actress and looking good was enough to be famous. Today the times are different. Being pretty is not enough. Acting is not going to give them the coverage they need. And they do need to be on the front pages on a regular basis! So how do they do that? Well, I believe everybody knows now how they do it but when it all started did anybody really know what was going on?
I know that there will be a lot of people disagreeing with me but I am going to say it anyway: Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Nicole Richie are TRAIL BLAZERS! Not joking! Yes, people, trail blazers! Is there anyone out there who doesn't know who they are? Is there anyone out there who hasn't heard of at least one of their 'escapades'? No, there isn't. Even I know about them though I am a person who could not care less about anything that comes from scandal media. And believe me, there are children out there living in very poor conditions with no TV, no magazine, no store where he or she could buy things that look like the ones these girls wear and probably without things less important like food, parents a house, and, even though I am not a gambling man, I would bet anyone that these children know about these girls as well (or at least they know about Paris or Britney). If that doesn't speak to the value of the hard work they put in day in and day out (or night in and night out - whichever fits best) then I don't know what does.
And the people working in court houses know this very well and, I dare say, they are a part of it. How could a judge send Nicole to prison for a period longer than he did when Nicole was only doing her job?! You, the writer, would you like to be sent to prison because you wrote a novel? Of course, you'll say, writing a novel is not illegal and you could be right. I am not going to go into a debate about this but in a world where things like the patriot act exists I wouldn't be too sure that writing a novel doesn't have the potential of being illegal. And being famous is not illegal either. Only some of the things they have to do to stay famous are and I don't want to hold that against them.
Yes, the bottom line is Nicole was only doing her job. What else would you want her to do for her fame? Act?God, no! Sing? We've been through that with Britney, Paris and Lindsay and, though the world had a different opinion than myself at the time when Britney was doing it, I don't really want to go through that again - and I am certain that it's not just me. So, making home videos, showing off body parts - shaved or not, partying, drinking and driving or just drinking, doing drugs, are all just part of the job.
I, personally, am looking forward to the next appearance of a shaved... well, you know what I'm talking about. And I hope it will be Nicole since she hasn't done it yet (to my knowledge). Also, Nicole is my favorite.
