Left Behind
If I were a young boy
With time on my hands,
I wouldn't sit and watch you
Waste away again.
If my eyes were pure as rain
And I didn't know the pain,
I would run off in my innocents
Staying young for another day.
But I stay by your side,
We're here once again.
We've been here many times before,
But I fear we're at an end.
Disease has taken hold of you,
Your body gives up the fight.
You've fought well my sweet, sweet love,
I'll see you on the other side.
I stand over your resting place,
While rain trickles down my face.
I can not tell the difference
Between the rain and the tears I lay.
A single rose, petals of love,
I place upon your grave.
What you left behind in life,
Words can hardly say.
I will remember the special times
You didn't forget to smile.
Even when my hopes were down,
You were there all the while.
I felt so helpless my dearest love,
When the cancer took control.
My smiles couldn't help you,
But I couldn't let you go.
I cried to sleep every night
In the hospital by your side.
I wanted to take the pain away,
So not to let you die.
So many things I wanted to say,
So many kisses I wanted to give.
If only I were stronger somehow,
Maybe you could have lived.

and fight to keep the tears at bay.
Your news has shattered my whole life
and taken
My fondest welcome, dear old friend!
I feel safe in your embrace.
You will be with me through night's end,
