As a single parent, life can get overwhelming at times. You alone are the one who is ultimately responsible for raising your children, doing the best job possible for these young lives that you have been blessed with. As much of a joy as your children are, there is no doubt that they are also a lot of work, sometimes even heartache and frustration. For the single parent, it can be difficult to find some me time, that is just for you, when you can refresh and rejuvenate yourself to keep on going for another day, week, month, etc. There are ways that you can do this, though, and it is very important for your emotional, physical, and mental health.
Friends and family can be some of your most invaluable resources when it comes to finding time for yourself. Because these are people that you already know and probably trust with your children, they will be great options for childcare on occasion. Grandparents are often quite thrilled to have a chance to spend time with their grandchildren, so don't deny them this opportunity. And, although it is sometimes an uncomfortable situation, don't neglect the grandparents and other relatives on your ex's side, either. Too often, children and relatives are robbed of building strong relationships in cases of break-ups or divorces and it really isn't necessary. You can also rob yourself of some precious time to yourself by not engaging the help of these people as you raise these precious children.
If you don't have a support group of people that you already know, you can check into joining an organized group for single parents in your area. Most places have these today and they are wonderful places to meet other people who are in your situation. You can make new friends, have a place to vent your frustrations, and get tips and advice from other members, as well. There may also be a variety of planned events and activities for you and your children to attend together. You can get your me time at the meetings, but you can also get some by finding other single parents that you trust and having a schedule of playdates for the kids, where you can trade off supervising them.
Getting your kids on a good, regular schedule is another important factor in parenting, especially when you are doing so alone. Have set times for naps and bedtime, as well as a somewhat routine morning schedule. There can also be times for quiet play or other activities that your children will be safe doing alone, depending on their ages. You can schedule
