Who is the man who told a reporter at the beginning of the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, “There is no one who wants this over with more than me, I want my life back.”? He’s the oil industries Joe Biden when it comes to gaffes, that much was apparent. Other than that bazaar statement to the press, there were others just as off the wall made during the first 60 days of the disaster when he served as BP’s Clean up spokesman and CEO.
“Life” for Anthony B. “Tony” Hayward began 52 years ago on May 21, 1957 (wikipedia). Details of his life are available starting from 1982 when he earned a Ph.D. in geology at the University of Edinburgh. He also holds Honorary Doctorates from the University of Edinburgh, Aston University and the University of Birmingham.
His career at BP Oil began that same year as a rig geologist. This work took him all around the world in both commercial and technical roles until 1997. He then returned to London as a Member of the Upstream Executive Committee. In 2000 he was appointed Treasurer and Chief Executive for BP’s upstream activities and member of the Main Board of BP in 2003. In May 2007, Tony was appointed Group Chief Executive of BP. By 2009 Tony’s annual income was $3,158,000.00.
Tony’s personal life includes a wife and two children who reside with him somewhere near Sevenoaks, Kent.
Hobbies include yachting. Apparently this is how Tony winds down and regroups during times of crisis and stress as the world seen on June 24, when he went home to take part in a yacht race where his vessel came in 4th place. He also likes soccer according to those who observed him watching the World Cup at a hotel bar with a beautiful fellow fan who was not his wife.
Other than being a geologist and climbing the corporate ladder at BP Oil quite rapidly, along with his love for sailing and enjoying drinks and watching the World Cup with young pretty women, there isn’t much else available on Tony Hayward, well, other than he’s also good at opening his mouth and inserting his foot.
