In my honest opinion WWE wrestling is heading into a downward spiral. This is due to two major factors, the first being having no real competition.

The WWF (as it was then known) peaked in popularity in the 'attitude' era, when they were competing fiercely with the WCW for ratings and their share of the fan base. It now has no reason to put on spectacular shows as for most it is the only company available to watch on TV, and has become lazy of late in its choice of contenders and pay per view matches. Having another major organization to compete with also helped creatively as ideas from either organization were adapted and bettered upon.

The second major factor has been the recent rise of the UFC (ultimate fighting championship) in the states, and its reinvention as an acceptable, mainstream sport rather than a spectacle gaining fans from shock value. Where boxing and WWE stocks are falling the UFC's is rapidly rising, and celebrity endorsement, as well as increasing access on television means it is quickly attracting fans that the WWE is losing. As well as this many young athletes in the future will be tempted to fight in the UFC rather than the WWE as the UFC begins to supersede WWE in fighters wages, as well as fighters being famous for a true representation of themselves, rather than a character or persona they're putting on for show.

So in the future i see the WWEs sales and viewing figures dropping further, to the point where a much smaller organization can compete with them (the next biggest at the moment being TNA i believe), at which point they will begin to rise due to having to compete for the remaining fans, at which point two large companies will dominate the scene once again.
