Boxing Fever was a first person boxing game for the Game Boy Advance made by Digital Fiction. It was released in October, 2001and received relatively high ratings from multiple high critics. On an average scale, it had around a 7.5/10 rating score because of its realistic graphics and quick while exciting game play on the Game Boy Advance. The great thing about the graphics is that the graphical engine actually makes the boxers three dimensional. This adds a very alluring appeal to the game because most other Game Boy Advance games always seem to be poorly made, graphically wise. Unfortunately, the game was criticized for its repetitive nature because of the simple controls. Also, the password save system was not spared from criticism. The password save system was compared to that of GT Advance Championship Racing because of its inconvenience and unnecessary way to save money. However, the game itself outweighs these small flaws and easily provides a good half hour session of rumbling boxing for gamers.
The game allows gamers to choose from eight different boxers to fight with. Interestingly enough, there are two female boxers available for use and they are rather visually appealing. It is interesting to note that Digital Fiction did not take a sexist approach to the fighting scenario to make all eight boxers male. There are also five game modes to choose from: Single Fight, Championship, Survival, 2P Fight, and Training.
Predominantly, they are all the same. After all, they feature the same boxing game over and over again. This is why the game gets dull after around a thirty minute session. Anyways, Single Fight is exactly what the name puts it out to be. It is one fight where the player chooses his boxer and his opponent's boxer. Championship is a string of approximately seven or so fights to defeat all the opponents. There are four different difficulties for Championship. Survival is similar to Championship, but it ends when the gamer's player gets knocked out. The gamer plays for as long as he can until he does fall. 2P Fight allows for multiplayer boxing sessions. Training allows the gamer to tone his boxing skills.
As a whole, Boxing Fever is a very fun game to play. It lacks unlockables, so the game at first glance is what the gamer gets as a whole. However, it is still worth playing and deserves high praise for its three dimensional engine and fun fights that last a short while.
