Google Chrome is the relative new kid on the web browser block. Naturally, anything with the Google name on it is going to be a force to be reckoned with, and Chrome is no different. The browser is extremely fast and very user friendly. Best of all, it offers the ability for users to create plug-ins called extensions that add even further usability to an already excellent browser. Here are a few of the best extensions to enhance the search functionality of the Chrome browser.
Google Dictionary is an indispensable extension for Chrome. After installing it, it enables you to double-click on a word that you're unfamiliar with and a dialog box will pop-up with a definition of the word. This is far easier than having to keep an extra tab open in the browser to search for the definition of a word you're unfamiliar with.
Coolris is another really useful search extension for media content. Actually, it's like a media content platform. After installing Coolris, whenever you view webpages such as Google Images, Youtube or Flickr, you open Coolris and everything is displayed as a 3D wall. You can slide things around and the wall slides with it. Coolris also offers a service called Coolris Channels where you can search for episodes on Hulu and other streaming video sites through the 3D view.
WebMynd alters the way your search results appear. You can search on whatever search engine you prefer, Google, Yahoo, or Bing, but when when your results appear, WebMynd displays a list of results on the right of the screen from sources you choose. These include Twitter, Wikipedia, The New York Times, Amazon, and Reddit, just to name a few. With a little customization, WebMynd can be a very useful extension.
If you have your own website, Chrome SEO is an invaluable tool. It provides easy access to Search Engine Optimization tools right in your browser so you can design your site to get the most traffic possible. Chrome SEO also integrates pay-per-click services like Adwords, Adsense, and Microsoft Adcenter.
If you search for images frequently, the TinEye Reverse Image Search extension is very useful. This uses TinEye's technology to compare images against the originals to see if they're edited and to find higher resolution versions of the same image.
There are countless other extensions that you can add to the Chrome Browser to add functionality. If none of these extensions do the trick, you can try searching the Chrome Extension Database for one that will suit your purpose.
