Poetry: How much can you endure?

by Melody Phillips

Created on: July 20, 2010

Tears in your eyes, fear in your voice

They say with sadness, you have a choice

Tears on your pillow, terrors of the night

Reaching for safety knowing it's not right

Wanting to believe, holding on to life

Squeezing so tightly, it cuts like a knife.

Do we hold on enjoying the pain?

Or do we hold on knowing we are insane?

When pain in your heart is so hard to bare

But taking that final breath will be the ultimate dare.

Sadness was not the choice I made

It came with the pain of each passing day

I didn't want the pain or the hurt I feel,

I'm looking for the one way to heal.

Endurance of life is the ultimate goal

Living to die is what we all know.

God is with me and my endurance is strong,

Giving up on life I know would be wrong.

So another day I shall struggle through

I won't turn away, I will make life do.
