Invitations were extended
in advance of Thanksgiving,
all invitees responded,
asking what they should bring.
"Just your appetite," said I,
"But if you insist,
you can surprise us
with your favorite dish."
Grandma showed up
wearing a satisfied gloat,
with her cranberry sauce
in a crystal compote.
Auntie arrived
a little bit late,
her contribution was
cranberry jell on a plate.
Each ensuing guest
handed over their dish,
containing yet more
cranberry relish.
Couldn't help but wonder
as I served the first course,
how many ways can one use
leftover cranberry sauce?
