Why I am a Vegetarian: a Q&A with a recent convert
What made you decide to do it?
I was at a seminar and they did a 5 hour segment on diet. They told us everything that meat has in it and WHY it tastes good. Meat gets its flavor from Uric Acid. This is the acid from the urine of the animal, which is flooded through its body when it dies. the more flavor a piece of meat has, the more uric acid it contains. Also, meat is tenderized by puterfractive germs. These are the bacteria from the colon of the animal, which again saturates all parts of the animal when it dies. Also, the animal, when taken to the slaugherhouse, gets off of a truck and immediately is poked with electric prods into a noisy, smelly slaughterhouse. Animals have extreme senses of smell and KNOW that they are smelling the death of other animals. Then they are shoved into these small steel channels in a single file line. Most of them start to freak out and try to escape, then they are shot with a steel bolt to their head. Now when this is happening, that animal is flooded with adrenaline. Then that animal is killed, and when you eat the meat from that animal you are eating its adrenaline. Adrenaline causes stress-like symptoms. It has not been proven that meat contributes to stress, but to me it just makes sense.
Also some other important health facts that made me decide to stop eating meat: 1)Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. Heart disease is directly related to the amount of cholesterol and saturated fat a person consumes. Meat and dairy are the main sources of saturated fat and cholesterol in an American diet. 2) 40% of all cancers are diet-related. 3) The risk of death from heart attack for an average American man is 50%. The risk of death from heart attack for an average American man who does not comsume meat, dairy or eggs is 4%. 3) Two-thirds of people with adult-onset diabetes can either reduce their medications or stop them completely after 12 weeks of eating a strict vegan diet (no meat, dairy or eggs).
Anyway so I decided to do a cleanse. This meant I could only have vegetables, fruits, whole wheat breads and pastas and either fresh squeezed juice or water for 10 days. In those 10 days I also got 3 hydro-colon cleanses. Now I have always been tired. I wake up tired, I take naps during the day (even when I worked i would go out to my car at lunch to sleep) Within 3 days of eating and drinking this way, I felt like a machine. I was pumped, happy, energized and always smiling.
