What makes the Internet so great

The Internet has opened up a lot of possibilities that only seemed as a fantasy to us some decades ago. From being able to share ideas to anyone from any part of the globe to starting your own business right out of your own home, the Internet can offer a lot more to its users than any medium we currently have today.

This is partly due to the evolution that the Internet has undergone since when it first became mainstream. At the early stages of the Internet, most websites were static and felt very much like looking at paper documents, allowing no interaction between the users and the site host. Today, the interactive aspect of websites is one of the most valued features wherein users can connect not only to web pages but also to fellow users who have access to the world wide web.

Connectivity

The internet serves as a meeting of minds for people with similar interests or affiliations. You can find people from all areas of your life whether in your family, school or work at various social networking sites. There are many modes of communication whether through instant messaging or chat, video conferencing, and email messages to name a few.

Patterned after traditional mail delivery systems, an email address's main function is to send and receive messages as well as file attachments to and from fellow internet users. An email address has become a necessity since it also serves as your identification whenever you log-in to your affiliated sites thus making it an indispensable part of the internet experience.

File Sharing

If you've had to borrow books, photos, music, movies and video CDs, and I mean physically borrowing said objects and carrying them all the way to wherever you have to go, then you would know the convenience of digital files and the ease of sharing them. You could send e-books, photo images, music and video files, to whomever you wish via email or through file-hosting sites.

Paperless Transactions

It used to be that everything requires some sort of papers in any kind of transaction for the purpose of tracking and documentation. Most businesses have filing systems to contain all of these papers which requires tedious organization and also a lot of space. Database systems are now in place to achieve these same results saving a lot of time, effort, space, and most probably a lot rainforests as well.
