BY FAITH: POETRY
By faith I do not question if this will be the day
My eyes will fail to open, my spirit flown away.
By faith I place my feet upon an always-solid floor.
I walk across my bedroom and I open up the door.
My dog runs up to meet me, as I know, by faith, he will.
My children rush to greet me, and they wait for me to fill
Their little bowls with cereal; their faith knows they will eat.
My husband, robed, steps from the shower, and he, too, takes a seat.
We fold our hands and bow our heads and offer up a prayer
Of thanks to God in heaven, who by faith, we know is there.
So many things we take for granted, from the rising sun
To moonlight and to lamplights that flash on when day is done.
There may be those who say God died or never did exist.
Who see belief as foolishness, as naivete’s bliss.
I listen to them patiently. Someday they’ll understand
That while they rail against Him God still holds them in His hand.
And they, too, place their feet upon a floor that doesn’t fail
And prosper in a universe whose colors never pale.
They trust their eyes will open and they do, yes, even though
There’s so much about faith their minds dismiss or do not know.
The world’s not always just or fair, and not everyone
Finds sweet release, untroubled sleep or joy beneath the sun.
But I believe God cares for me and every rambling waif,
And loves us all and guides us all and leads us all by faith
