A common strategy in coping with the current state of the economy has emerged within the last couple of years. People are finding it lucrative to change careers. Some are finding the freedom to pursue their passions or rid themselves of job burnout for the first time in their lives. Others who have suffered job loss are simply looking to get back to work, searching for the highest paying fields that offer entry level positions. The good news is that many are discovering that these positions do exist. The field that is right for you naturally depends on your education level, which is why so many in all age groups are going back to school.
Engineer
If you are considering returning to school and have good math comprehension, it might benefit you to know that the top starting salary for a college graduate is in the field of engineering. A Bachelor’s in engineering can lead to an average salary of $53,400 a year. Engineering, like other fields, can follow trends. Right now a popular area is environmental, which is riding the go-green wave. Another hotspot in engineering is the biomedical field, where a 72% job increase is expected to occur as it continues to grow.
Health Care
There has never been a shortage of employment opportunities in this field. While some positions, such as that of a registered nurse, obviously require a higher level of education, others can be obtained with mere months of training. Medical Laboratory technicians earn a degree in 1-2 years, depending on what program they enroll in. The typical lab technician has a yearly salary of over $32,000 and this field is expected to have a 20% job increase in the next eight years. A medical assistant can receive a certificate within a year and begin earning a little over $20,000 to start.
Government employment
Millions of people are asking what the U.S government plans to do about the recession. For starters, it might give you a new job. Accountants employed by the government can expect wages of around $27,000 a year. Even when the prognosis is less than favorable we need to know where we stand financially, so there is valuable job security in this field. Other entry level positions within the government include administrative assistant and social worker.
What it takes to find a solid entry level position in today’s recession is perseverance. Do your research and be practical about the industry in which you choose to seek employment. Reevaluate your skills and go for positions where you can utilize your strongest attributes. Do this and there is no reason you won’t eventually land the position that is the best match for you.
