The German Shepherd is one the most popular dogs today. This popularity however has proven to be disadvantages for dog lovers and the dog breed. Due to its popularity, many breeders started selling mixed breeds claiming that they are originals. This trend followed and today without proper knowledge of selecting a pure German Shepherd you can easily be conned. If you are a dog lover and you want an original German Shepherd which you can take on a walk with pride then follow these tips on how to select a German Shepherd:
The first and the foremost thing you need to do is to ask people around especially the ones who are experienced owners of German Shepherds. Ask them about good breeders from where you can get pure breeds of German Shepherds. Many breeders are involved in selling mix breeds of German Shepherds so you should stay away from them. The best way is to research about some good breeders in your local town and buy the dog breed from them.
Second step is to either take a vet to the breeder or consider the certification provided by a vet to the breeder. Usually breeders keep certificates and medical records of every dog they have so that the customers don’t need to do the work. Even then if you are not satisfied then take a vet along with you and ask him to check the dog thoroughly.
Another important thing to consider is to check the dog’s family history. Breeders maintain a history of the dog’s origin because they know how handy it is to make the customers satisfied. It is your duty to check it to avoid any mishaps.
It is usually recommended to buy a German shepherd puppy. German shepherds are basically very loyal and intelligent dogs and they get attached to their owners very much. Buying a puppy can ensure that he will be loyal towards you and will consider you as his master. A full sized German shepherd dog might not get acquainted to you that easily and in some cases it gets impossible to train a full sized German shepherd. It is therefore recommended to buy a puppy so that you can train him since childhood.
German shepherds are one of the best dogs out there but you should only buy one if you can take care of it. In fact this goes with any animal you want to buy!
