Biggest mistakes when buying a used car
Buying a used car is always a risk and many people are left with disappointment and receive less than the money they may have paid suggests. Used are 99% of the time come with some small problem or something that is due to fault, new cars have much more value with their warranties and no history. DVLA statistic say that 1 in 7 cars have a history such as being stolen, written off the road etc which leads me to my first mistake.
1.Checking the cars value and history before even considering anything else is extremely important, you can do this from any number of companies such as the DVLA, the AA and CarSpotter are the most reliable which will provide you will all the vital information you need. Usually this service will cost you roughly £3-£5 however it is better to find out anything bad about the car before buying or the car dealer lieing to you. Never believe everything the salesperson tells you they may not know the truth themselves, remember all that matters to them is the cash.
2. Take a friend or close relative that know mechanics to check the car inside out mechanically and ensure your not buying any piece of junk. Although garages look like reliables and trustworthy business's the only way they are making money is by getting the best of every deal, if this means selling a car that will need repairs very soon then they will do this.
3. Before you buy a car Insist on a test drive I have almost bought many second hand cars that look to be too good to be true, gave them a test drive only to find them broken down after 10 minutes driving. Many parts of a car can be faulty and hard to know unless are damaged unless it is driven for an extended period of time, roughly 30 minutes of average town driving should be a fair test to ask the right questions of the motor.
Cars are apparently the second most expensive object in anybodies life and the last thing you want to do is waste your money one something that wont last and turn out to costs so much. Although second hand cars are cheap getting your hands on a worthy piece of metal is important, you can end up spending £800 in repairs for a car only worth £800.
