The price of arrogance

Arrogance has no place in the heart of a Christian.  After all, we are absolutely nothing without God, and can be nothing without Him.  Our very existence depends on the mercy of God, so we have nothing to boast about within ourselves.

Arrogance is synonymous for:  self-importance, self love, pompousness, conceitedness, contemptuousness, egotism, haughtiness, high-handedness, loftiness, pretentiousness, pride, smugness, or vanity. The list could continue on and on.

In today’s world there is a “me, myself, and I” mentality.  If the world does not revolve around the wants and needs of the arrogant, the rest of us are going to hear about it.   We are seeing more arrogance and self-centeredness than ever before.  Society has stuck a pacifier in the mouth of the latter generations.  They continuously whine and complain about all the injustices in their lives and have succumbed to an air of arrogance and entitlement.  The very idea that we would expect them to be respectful to their parents, get a job and be self-supportive is almost a crime in their eyes.

Many of the younger generation seem to think that everyone owes them something and that they are entitled to admiration for making a living, working hard, or taking care of their families.  In reality these are your duties as a Christian, to be done in humility and with the understanding that God gives and He can take away.  God plainly stated that a man who would not work did not deserve to eat.

Society has helped to create a generation that sees no need for receiving instruction from the elder generation, they assume they have all the answers.   The have abandoned the respect and admiration for the wisdom obtained through life and many have had too much given to them.  This arrogance is spiraling out of control and will ultimately be the downfall of our generations and our nation

In the bible God is clear about what he thinks about pride and arrogance. In Proverbs it says that, “Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD”.  In my view that does not sound like God is thrilled with arrogant attitudes or behaviors.   It also goes on to tell us that if we keep that type spirit we will ultimately be punished for it.  There are consequences to everything we do and are in this life.

1 John 2:16 says that if you have the pride of life in you, that you are not His.  Pride and arrogance are worldly and sinful.  Proverbs 16:18 is very clear about what pride and arrogance can do for us.  “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” There are consequences to everything we do and are in this life.  When we live under a veil of arrogance we are destined to fall eventually
