Hi! I know spring cleaning is a BEAR of a job, but with this handy guide, shouldn't be too hard!
First off, make a checklist of all the cleaners in your home, (yes, that does mean the funky stuff that WAS windex, isn't anymore!) your cleaners need cleaning too!
Then, after throwing out the bottles of coagulated furniture polish, make a list for the store. Remember: when your buying cleaners, if they say that "window cleaner" only costs $.69, its because its 3/4 water, and a drop of cleaner. You get what you pay for!
Alright, come on home, kick back for a second (don't let the kids see, you'll never hear the end of it! you'll never get them to clean!) Think: work from the back rooms out. Push the trash and whatnot to the center of the house.
Now, look at the walls: Are they painted or papered? or neither? If you can lightly wash them, just grab a wet washcloth and do a quick do-over. They'll be fine. Dust next. Watch out for those oily dust products! They will ATTRACT and clot dust. Its NASTY! Use a multi-purpose if you can. Take everything off the tops of dressers. Put it on the bed. Look it over. Dust the frames and nick-nacks. Put them back in a decent order. If the tops look cluttered, its cause they are. Do some downsizing. If you cannot bear to part with it, put it in a shoebox and store in the closet. (Yeah, all the other "cleaning ladies" would've just shot me, but guess what? I'm a real mom, i live in my house thank you! lol) Tackle closets next. Trust me , if something smells weird in it, get your kids to do it! ((LOL!)) take everything out, sort it...Is it too small? does it look weird? does it SMELL wierd? proceed to get up, take it to the appropriate place: Laundry room, garbage, or the toxic waste barrel.
OK now: look at the beds, re-make with fresh sheets. WHILE YER AT IT! look at the mattress! if it is spotted, or sunk, spot clean it and flip it! Stick a dryer sheet under the fitted sheet for that extra couple weeks of freshness. This works very well in a guest room where the sheets won't be moved for a while.
Look around ! Great job! spray some febreeze and RUN!
OK bathrooms. OI. what a long one this is: fill your tub with HOT water (if you have little ones keep them OUT!) put 2C's of bleach in it and let it set while you do the counter sweep: get all stuff off, get out that toothbrush that you DON"T use (or the one you PRAY your husband wont) and clean that funk from around the sink and at the seams...(Doesn't that stuff
