Reflections: Fear

by Jay Shree

Created on: July 17, 2010

Fear is considered dreadful to many because there is no prescribed medication that can demolish it except for high self esteem and confidence. Since fear is originated from the brain itself, hence only the brain has the rightful power to vanquish it in the same unexpected and uninvited way it appeared in our lives. Perhaps medication cannot place a full stop to our problems related to fear but people believe meditation can indeed help the brain to find peace and control those fears helping us to pick up pieces of shattered hopes and desires which was once buried and cemented under the various names of fear.

In this civilized era of modernization, both men and women have did their best to achieve glorious paths directly and indirectly for their own benefits and the benefits of others. We often ask ourselves why some succeed and some can’t lift themselves up to catch their dreams and ambition? What makes one special and far more awesome from the other? The answer is simple. Fear. Fear is the invisible line drawn in one’s life, a barrier to live up to their own expectations and the expectations of others who depend on them.

There are undeniable many types of fears of people in this world. Acrophobia, the fear of heights, claustrophobia, the fear of enclosed spaces, decidophobia, the fear of making decisions, atychiphobia, the fear of failure and so on and so forth. Certain fears depend on situations such as when you are stuck in an elevator you may experience claustrophobia, however it is not always you experience such a situation and there is always the staircase as another alternative. As for decidophobia, it is another story. Every day in life you’ll have to make decisions, starting from what you would like to have for breakfast, which project will be more beneficial for your company, where would you like your car to be parked, which marketing company should you invested in and many more. That particular fear is embedded in your daily lifestyle and you can’t get rid of it easily. The advantage of this fear is that you can slowly make it dissolve and vanish once and for all by making decisions everyday and turning that fear into a harmless routine.

Moreover, fear may not be the aspect that is present in our head  when we are born into this world, it is the thought and feeling that grows and emerges in our personality due to the events taking place around us and the obstacles we face in our life. Society, friends and families mould our ways, without us realizing that within that community itself certain fears develop due to the love and care we place in our cherished ones. We put ourselves in the state of fear of making the wrong choices due to the lack of confidence we have in ourselves. How did the fear emerge and where did my confidence go? We are only capable of asking these questions over and over again and yet not necessarily the right answers will come knocking at our front door unless we make a point to develop our confidence by our own.
