iPhone app reviews: Metal Gear Solid Touch

Metal Gear Solid Touch

Category: Games

Developer: Konami Digital Entertainment

Metal Gear Solid has been around for a long time for other platforms and has now found its way to the iPhone. Metal Gear Solid Touch is a simple shooting game where you are given a mission and will advance once that mission is completed. In each level you are placed behind an object where you can take cover when you are not shooting at enemies. Each level has it’s own setting from where enemies can appear from anywhere on the screen. Every time an enemy appear a circle changing color from yellow to red indicates when the enemy is ready to return fire. Sometimes civilians appear among the enemies and you will lose points if you shoot them.

Controlling the game can most of the time be done with just one finger and you will never have to use more than one hand (only when shooting the sniper rifle). Aiming is done by dragging your finger anywhere on the screen so you don’t have to have your finger on top of the sight. Shooting is done by simply tapping anywhere on the screen. When you are not touching the screen you will take cover behind the object in front of you. When an enemy is too far away to shot with the default rifle you can change to a sniper rifle by simply pinching your fingers. All the controls works very smooth however the movement of the aiming point can feel a bit slow at times.

The graphics in the game are good but without being spectacular but for the type of game they have chosen to make it doesn’t mean that much and the graphics are more than good enough. The occasional moving object in the missions such a helicopters are nicely made and the game runs smooth in general without any lag.

Even though it is a somewhat stationary game the level of fun is still quite high as the individual missions keeps challenging your skills and the few changes in each level keeps it fun for longer. The game will be challenging enough for most people but some might find it a bit too easy.

Metal Gear Solid Touch is overall a very fun game. The controls and graphics are good and make the game worth a buy. A lite version is available If you want to try out the game first before purchasing it.
