Garage sales are a great way to clean out the things you no longer need from your home and make some cash for it! It is possible to make hundreds of dollars during a garage sale as bargain hunters search for great deals, if you know how! Use these tips to help ensure your sale is a success!
*Advertise
You can't sell anything if no one knows you are having a sale! Place ads in your local newspaper the weekend of your sale. Make the ad stand out by adding a border or special sign. Fliers should be posted around town with the date, time, and address of your sale. Entice people by listing a few of the items in the sale. Ads can also be placed online to reach even more people. Sites such as craigslist.org offer free advertising! Tell all of your friends, co-workers, and family members, who can also tell others about the sale.
*Attract A Crowd
Post large, colorful signs in front of your home advertising your sale. Bright balloons are great to attach to the sign. Place signs on both sides of the road so everyone sees the sign. If possible make some of your bigger items noticeable from the street. If you have small items not worth a lot, create a "free"box for these items. Place a large, clearly visible sign advertising the free goodies.
Other ways to attract a crowd (and add more cash to your sale) is with a cook-out! While you manage the sale hubby can grill up some juicy hamburgers and hot dogs. Sell them for a reasonable price. Be sure to have vegetables and condiments for toppings, along with napkins and paper plates. The smell will be a crowd-getter, and you'll be amazed at the profit you will make.
*Make Sure It Works
Electronics and other big-ticket items are popular for garage sales. Most people will want to try before they buy, so be sure to have an area nearby for customers to test things. If something needs batteries, put fresh ones in so that customers see that it works. This will bring more money for your items, as well as move them much faster.
*Get the Kids Involved,Too
Since hubby will be busy with the sale, the kids need to be involved also! Set up a lemonade stand for them to sell glasses of lemonade or other beverages. Kids can also man their own "kid store", offering drinks, Popsicles, and candy. This will be a huge hit, and the kids will have a great time doing it!
*Keep it Organized
No one likes to try to sort through a mess. Keep items on the table organized and neat. Hang all clothes, with a different area for men's, women's, and kid's clothing. Make sure all of your things are priced, and be sure to place all items that are similar together. An easier sale will keep the customer browsing longer!
*Price it Right
Garage sale shoppers are looking for a bargain. You want to make money, but pricing it to high will only force you to drag it back inside. Price everything reasonably, and be ready to negotiate your prices.
