Paintball is an action packed game existing since the  early 1980s. It is a fast paced game in which players are equipped with a gun made specifically for paint balls and released into a playing field with their opponents, mixing adrenaline, action and strategy together where small paint filled balls are being shot at opponents at speeds reaching up to 200 miles per hour. This game can be played and enjoyed by many varying age ranges and boys and girls alike.

First and foremost when starting to play you need your equipment. Many fresh players are better off to begin with renting their guns so they can get a feel and decide if it is their game or not before spending the dollars. Your gun will be your source of defense. To prevent the need of feeding in your balls one by one, your gun will most likely come equipped with a "hopper". A small container attaching to your gun allowing the balls to fall into place. Quite often hoppers will hold hundreds of balls for your convenience.

Your ears and chin need to be properly covered. If you are concerned about head injury, some helmets offer full head coverage. Look for a thermal lens to prevent major fogging up while you breath and ensure you have a proper fit before purchasing.

Now, on to the game. While a game is being played and you are on the field be sure to leave your mask on AT ALL TIMES! This can not be stressed enough. Some of the most severe paintballing accidents have occured when someone removed their masks at the wrong time. They should only be removed in the designated area out of the playing field. If you do not have a clear view of what you are shooting than use your common sense and do not shoot. This type of blind shooting could lead to a serious accident. Close up shots are much more painful than far away shots. Offer a surrender to any victim closer than 20 feet away.

Never play under the influence of alcohol, prescription or recreational drugs. Being in a playing field under the influence can lead to serious injury as a result of your altered state of mind. Only play paintball if you are fully coherent.  Use your common sense and avoid shooting on private property, from a moving vehicle of any
