Their are several different types of dog breeds that are good for herding sheep. You may have started a sheep farm and are wondering what would be the best type of sheep dog for your sheep farm. There are several different types of dogs mentioned below.

1. German Shepherd

The Germen Shepherd are also called Alsation dogs.  This type of dog breed is considered to be a very intelligent dog. The German Shepherd is also used in many other way.  Herding sheep, such as guarding, tracking, and guiding dogs. This type of dog learns really fast and enjoys working.

2. Shetland Sheepdog

The Shetland Sheepdog or Sheltie are very sweet, kind, intelligent, and some are very cheerfull dogs.  They look similar to the Collie but its coat is much more rough and not as pretty as the collies coat is. They are considered to be a family dog and they are also good watch dogs.

3. Pembroke Welsh Corgi

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed is a very small dog breed. When you see them or  hear them you will probably think you are going to incounter a dog 10 size bigger than a pembroke. The Pembrokes are very intelligent dogs. They can pick up sounds very easily and they are very alert on their jobs. They love older children but they are not to good around younger ones. They are also very loayal dogs.

4. Australian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd is a very good herding dog. You will mainly find them on a sheep farm in Australia. These dogs are very easy to train. Since they learn fast, they are usually trained to inter obedience competitions. These dogs are also very friendly dogs but most owners do not give them enough atención and usually are given up for adoption. So if you want a Australian Shepherd you well need to give them lots of atention. They are also good watch dogs.

5. Collies

Thier are two different types of collies. The rough-haired ones and the smooth-haired ones. The rough haired ones need alot more grooming atention than the smooth haired ones. They are also considered to be very intelligent dogs and they also love to be played with. If you deside to get a collie make sure you have time for it because if the collie gets bored he may become distructive.

The 5 different types of dogs that are metioned above are considered to be some of the best herding dogs. Their are many more breeds so please keep looking on internet and many other places to find the right herding dog for you and your sheep.
