PGA Tour: August schedule

Going into the month of August the PGA Tour offers four events including the PGA Championship taking place on the Whistling Straits course. The dates for the PGA Tour events in August are as follows.

August 05 – 08
Turning Stone Resort Championship

Taking place at the Atunyote Golf Club the Turning Stone Resort Championship was played for the first time in September 2007 and has been on the calendar a total of three times. In 2009 American golfer Matt Kuchar won the tournament in a score of 17 under par and after a marathon six-hole playoff. The prize for winning the tournament is set at $1,080,000 out of a 6 million dollar purse. In 2010 the Turning Stone Resort Championship will be scheduled at the same time as the World Golf Championships.




August 05 – 08
World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational

The World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, which is also known as the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational has been on the PGA Tour schedule since 1999 where it has been held at the historic Firestone Country Club established back in 1929. Tiger Woods won the tournament in 2009 marking the 7th time he has won it. Woods also holds the tournament record with a score of 21 under par. The winner of the tournament will receive a prize of $1,400,000 out of an 8.5 million dollar purse.


August 12 – 15
PGA Championship

The final major of the season takes place on the Whistling Straits golf course, which was also used back in 2004 making 2010 the second time that the course has been used for the PGA Championship. When played on Whistling Straights in 2004 Vijay Singh was named the winner. Yang Yong-eun won the tournament in 2009.This tournament was established back in 1916 and started as a match play tournament before changing to a stroke play format in 1958. The prize for winning the PGA Championship is $1,350,000 out of a 7.5 million dollar purse.


August 19 – 22
Wyndham Championship

Formerly known as the Greater Greensboro Open this tournament has been part of the PGA tours since 1938 and has always been played in Greensboro, North Carolina. Ryan Moore won the tournament in 2009 and was able to claim the winning prize of $918,000 out of a 5.1 million dollar purse.
