Heat wave weather means that you will want your air conditioner running twenty-four hours a day. The unfortunate thing about that is air conditioners tend to break down under the stress that they are put under during extreme temperatures. It's important to always keep your air conditioner in good maintenance just in case there is extremely hot weather. If something does happen, you need to know how to cope with the heat until you can get the air conditioner repaired.
How to cope when the air conditioner breaks down during a heat wave:
Use Fans- If you absolutely have to be in your house during a heat wave while the air conditioning is broken down, use as many fans as you possibly can to keep it as cool as possible. Use window fans to draw the hottest air out of the house. This won't keep it as cool as it should be but it will help keep the air quality higher.
Public Places- Go to public places to spend as much time as possible. For instance, go to the library for a while. It will be nice and cool in the library, you can get some studying done and you don't have to worry about getting sick from too much heat. Any public place will be air conditioned. Do you need some things from the store? Now is the perfect time to get that shopping done. Keep yourself busy outside of the home as much as possible until the air conditioner can be repaired.
Swimming- Find a public pool or even a pond to go swimming in. If it is a shaded area, that is even better. That is an activity that you can do all day long without having to worry about getting too hot. Just make sure you remember to take drinking water along so you can keep hydrated while having fun.
Friends and Family- Visit friends and family if your air conditioner is broken down during a heat wave. You may even be able to convince them to let you spend a night or two with them until the air conditioning can be repaired. This may be the best answer for you if the air conditioner repair man can't get to you right away.
Hotel Room- If possible, get a hotel room for a few days until the air conditioner can be repaired. Hotel rooms have air conditioning. This will keep you from getting ill. Illness caused by extreme heat can be deadly. You should do everything you can to stay out of that type of heat. That means even if you have to pay some money out in order to do it.
Water Bottles- If you are determined to stay in your home even if the air conditioner is broken down during a heat wave, keep several water bottles in the house. You can use the bottles to spray cool water on yourself when it gets too hot. This may be the best solution for trying to keep yourself cool during a heat wave and until the air conditioning can be fixed.
These are some of the best ways to cope when the air conditioner breaks down during a heat wave. Heat wave weather is brutal on the health of human beings. Do whatever it takes to keep yourself cool so that you don't end up in the hospital with a heat stroke. You can't be too careful with your health during summer heat waves.
