There is a lot of advice given to women in magazines about how to care for their hair, but men seem to have been very much left out of the equation. When it comes to hair care, it seems that men have very much been left to fend for themselves. But there are so many things that men can do to care for their long hair and make it look as good as possible.

Hair is at its most fragile when it is wet, so you need to keep the amount you move your hair when you are washing it to a minimum, always brush your hair before you wash it, this will mean that you will not have to work through any tangles whilst your hair is wet. It will also mean that the conditioner will have the chance to penetrate the hair more deeply because it does not have to work the tangles out of your hair.

Gently massage shampoo into the roots and temples of your hair, these are normally the only places that need to be shampooed, the ends of the hair do not tend to get greasy and so they need minimal shampooing. Allow the water to run down your hair rinsing off the shampoo, this is usually enough to clean the ends of the hair unless they are particularly dirty. Do not scrub at your hair with your fingertips, this will damage not only the hair, but also the scalp.

Always make sure that the water you use on your hair is not too hot, if it is it can damage the follicle making it look dry and dull.

There is a lot of controversy with some men when it comes to conditioning, but if you want to have nice looking, health hair, then you need to do it. Remove all of the excess water from your hair and apply the conditioner by smoothing it over your hair with your palms and then massaging it in with your fingertips. It is important to remove the excess water, if you do not the conditioner will be diluted, making it less effective.

Try to keep heat styling to a minimum, this means blow dryers as well as straighteners, but if you must use the always make sure you use a heat protection product before you do, these are designed to help minimise the damage done to the hair by the harmful styling products. Always make sure your hair is thoroughly dry before you straighten it, if you do not. then any moisture left on your hair will literally boil whilst it is still on your hair.
