The film starts off in the animated town of Andalasia with Giselle and the forest animals making a model of what her prince charming should look like and she starts singing and her voice is heard by Prince Edward who is out catching ogres. He follows the voice and finds Giselle and instantly falls for her. He declares that they will marry the following morning.
The Prince’s wicked step mother who is Queen says that she will not allow this and she banishes Giselle down the well into the land of reality. Giselle is so lost and she finally finds help when a divorces lawyer and his daughter come to her aid. Prince Edward follows Giselle to the real world and begins his search for her.
The wicked Queen sends her aid down to stop Prince Edward finding her and them getting married. Will Giselle and her prince ever be reunited and marry and return to Andalasia or will they find that true love lies elsewhere?
This film was definitely for children, the story was a happy ever after which is so like Disney, but I still found it thoroughly enjoyable. I enjoyed the animated start and who it progressed to reality and thought that they mixed the two well. Particularly enjoyed the start of the film where they went back to old Disney with a story book opening at the very beginning and a little bit of narration to set the scene for us. I thought that this was a lovely little touch and a wonderful start.
I enjoyed all of the characters and thought that they did wonderful jobs with each of their characters. The best character for me was the chipmunk, he did add lots of funny bits for me, also the Queen’s helper was great and funny. I thought that he bought some great fun to the film with his bumbling and daft things which he did.
The songs were very cheesy, but for me, they were what the film was about and the vocals on all of the songs were great. I thought that they were all appropriate and fitted into the film very well. I would still love to know how so many people know the words to the songs when they are supposed to be being sung spontaneously and never before been heard. One minute the song is a solo and the next the whole of the park is joining in!
I thought that the end of the film was good and not a typical happy ever after with the little twist which was added. I found that the Queen may scare some younger children towards the end so be warned that it does turn a bit nasty and there are some scenes of a dark and scary nature.
The DVD which I have does contain some bonus features which include:-
Deleted Scenes
Bloopers
Fantasy Comes to Life - Discover Enchanted’s cinematic wizardry in these behind the scenes features
Pip’s Predicament: A pop up adventure - After Giselle lands in New York Pip goes on a daring mission to rescue Prince Edward in Andalasia
The bonus material is watchable if you like that sort of thing, the bloopers are quite funny, but I would not pay any more for a DVD just to have these features.
The running time of the film is 103 minutes, which I feel is a good length and I did not find that the film was dragging in any place. It has a PG certificate which I feel is appropriate as there are some mild scary scenes towards the end which may upset or scare very young viewers.
The film was Produced by Kevin Lima. It was released in 2008 by Walt Disney Pictures.
I paid just under £5 for a brand new DVD from Amazon, so do shop around for a bargain.
