Choosing a feature wall can be a little scary at first but if you consider some basic rules there are ways to make that wall look wonderful. You will have to consider which wall you will use as a feature wall, the proper color that will accent your room and the different finishes that are available to make your wall the best it can be. Here are some suggestions on how to choose a feature wall.

Choosing the features wall

Perhaps the most important part of your project will be choosing which wall to highlight in your room. One of the basic rules is to choose a wall that has no windows or doors breaking up the wall into sections. You can maybe get away with a wall that is at one door or window at the end but it is better to have a solid wall. If you think that bigger is better when choosing a feature wall that is not always so. If the wall is unusually large it can overwhelm the rest of your room and make the wall look like it is overdone. A good rule of thumb when choosing your wall is to walk into your room and notice which wall catches your eye. That's the wall you should choose for your featured wall but keep in mind size does matter.

The color you choose

The color you choose can make or break a feature wall. You will need to examine the dominant colors that you are already using in your room. Look at your furniture and pay attention to the color. This will help you decide the color you want on your feature wall to tie everything together. A feature wall does not need to carry a bright overwhelming color to make it stand out. For example if you have a lot of red in your room painting your feature wall red will prove to be an overload and possible make your feature wall disappear instead of standing out. Coordinate your colors so that your feature wall does what it was intended to do.

Variety of finishes to choose from

Do not get bogged down with the same finish. There are so many different finishes to choose from such as metallic, suede and pearl to mention a few. Try experimenting to find something that will make that wall stand out and compliment your room. Stripes are another option that you can consider for a feature wall and do not forget wall paper. Wall paper can help give you the look you want for your feature wall.

Featured walls when done properly can add a look to your wall and room like no other. Take your time in choosing your color and if you are in doubt there are many sites on the web to help you select the proper finish for your wall. Choosing something that is pleasing to you is all that really matters as you are the one who will be looking at it for a while. Using tips on how to choose a feature wall will help you decide on just what you want to make your room attractive.
