The surest way to knock down the barriers surrounding a girl's heart is to get her laughing.  Humor establishes a common bond between two people and creates a feel-good environment where trust can be readily established.  Any man interested in the pursuit of a women, or women in general, would be wise to learn the art of being funny.

The gift of comedy is much less an innate talent than a learned skill.  It can be honed through effort, trial-and-error, and imitating those who have already mastered it.  Pete (we'll call him that) is one of those people.  He is thirty-something, with thinning, wispy blond hair, a pudgy face, round glasses that would make any nerd proud, and a love of food that has left him with a full rounded belly.  He is several inches shorter than average and not guilty of particular accomplishment in any way.  He is certainly not rich.  By that description, one could assume that Pete would have trouble meeting women, yet the opposite is true.   This writer has seen him with attractive woman after attractive woman.  His secret to getting their attention?  Humor, of course.

Imagine this scenario.  A crowded restaurant at lunch time.  A stunningly fetching waitress, stressed and trying to keep up with the rush.  And then there's Pete, sitting at a table with this writer and chowing down a full plate of greasy food when he announces that he's going to get her phone number.  He establishes a pattern of eye contact with her and eventually beckons her to the table.  Then, with an attitude doubtless honed through years of practice, he announces in a slightly cocky but humorous tone, "It's really making me uncomfortable the way you keep staring at me."  She laughs.  Our table gets a lot more attention after that, and he walks away with her digits.

There is no science to making a girl laugh, but here is a general rule of thumb.  Treat her a little bit like you would a bratty kid sister.  This attitude works even better with especially pretty women, who are used to men kowtowing to their every whim.  Feel free to make fun of her, but be sure to do it in the right way.  Make sure she has the confidence and self assurance to take the ribbing, and never make fun of her in a way that will be hurtful.  Rather than picking on a woman about her physical appearance, gently tease her about something that's not quite so personal, such as an oversized purse.  Do it with confidence, in a fun way that let's her know you're paying attention to her and interested in her.  She will be flattered that you're curious and intrigued by the fact that you're noticing her without genuflecting.    In a few minutes, she may be showing you the photos of her dog that she carries in that purse, and the conversation will be off and running.   Practice this technique, and you will soon notice that you're approaching women with confidence and a genuine interest in getting to know them.  That can be quite appealing.
