How to pick the best college dorm bedding

Considering how little sleep college students often get, especially those staying in the dorms, bedding is often the last thing on a student's mind when preparing for the years away at school. But there are several reasons that it is important to consider the decision of what type of bedding to select more carefully than when first anticipating those sleepless nights.

MORE ROOM IN YOUR DORM

The most important reason it is crucial to take the right bedding to school is that space is often at a premium in the confined quarters that are available. There will often not be space for spare bedding, and so even when cost is no factor there will still be a reason to take as little bedding as possible when first packing for the dorm. The bed will probably be the major feature of the room, so it is important that it its dressing is quality and versatile. At home, there maybe at least several changes of bedding readily available, if not someone to do the laundry! But at college there is often only what little that could fit in a suitcase or be packed in boxes that can be used for bedding changes. For some, what is kept on the bed may be the only option, and it should be one that was carefully considered.

COORDINATING YOUR ROOM

Because often students don't see their dorm ahead of time - much less be able to coordinate their bedding choice with the room's decor or the bedding of any room mate they might have - it is important that a college dorm's colors be somewhat neutral. Garish colors and patterns might seem fun and a great way to express a student's personality and individuality, but it is much easier and less expensive to do that by a poster, artwork, or other room decor that can be easily and cheaply replaced. Bedding - especially the quality linen a college student will want - is expensive, and it can easilly take up what little space is allotted for personal possessions, so the bed is probably not the best place for a student to express uniqueness, despite the fun and interesting choices that are available at the store when preparing to leave home.

So coordinating the bed with the room's decor might not be the most exciting way to prepare for school. It might be a better idea to save the decision on the room's decor or color scheme for later when the student is more clear about what the room looks like and what else will be there. The bedding might best be overall a neutral color, with perhaps the exception of a throw
