God's nature and man's nature: How they differ

God’s nature and man’s nature differ because they are lived from two different viewpoints. God’s natural world thrives around things eternal and man’s natural world is based on things temporal.

Man’s Nature

Natural man lives in this world and plans a fulfilling life and future based on his accomplishments and desires in this world. Men and women work to live a comfortable life, and save money for their future as they plan for a retirement according to their own desires. Some people want to travel and experience the world while others just want to live without financial burden.

The natural plans of mankind are based on the knowledge that they have a limited life time span on earth, be it 80 years or so.  There’s a consideration given to inherited illnesses that could affect the quality of life, the ability to prosper and become as wealthy as hoped for, and the acceptance that life after a certain age will likely involve a deterioration of health and physical abilities.

Natural man makes his life’s plans and bases his judgments on what he sees and what he knows is true according to the laws of this world. For example, if he struggles financially and has little material wealth, his plans for his future, for his retirement, will be limited to what he knows is real today and how the world forecasts his retirement will be. He will not attempt to change that because he’s accepted it as the unwritten law of this world. The statistics of this natural world will rule over his hopes.

God’s Nature

God’s nature is not based on the things of this world or on mankind, but on righteousness and divine truth. God is omnipotent. He sees all things and knows all things. He’s the beginning and the end. His life is not limited or restricted to anything or by anything. He is love. He is truth. He is life everlasting.

God created mankind in His image, beginning with the first Adam.  This image reflects His own heart, His passions and His truth.  But like all things that have been purified to perfection, the heart of man has to be tried and tested to be rid of the debris or the sin that has separated him from the truth; God’s truth.

Jesus became the sacrifice for the world, the One who would take on the sins of natural man so that the separation of man and God would end forever. Jesus set man free so that God and man could once again share the same nature.  Jesus gave back to man the hope and excitement of life beyond the limitations of this world; this natural world that man was restricted to.  (John 3:16)

“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him, neither can he know them because are spiritually discerned.” (1 Cor.2:14)

When the natural man accepts what Jesus has done for him on the cross, and confesses that God the Father rose Jesus from the dead and made Him to be a King over all the earth because of His sacrifice, (Romans 10:9) then and only then will he be able to see beyond his own doorstep, and hope beyond the limitations that this world has set. Then and only then will man see the truth and become part of God’s nature.
