KING KONG (2005)
This was my first movie review, if you have never seen a version of King Kong before, I will apologise now if I have given too much away. Wish me luck and I hope you enjoy the review. This is a review on the 2005 version.
As you may all be aware by now this is a remake of the 1933 classic movie, I cried at the original, and I cried buckets at this version.
The Characters:
It started off I felt, a little slow, but then I realised it is just setting the scene, for you to get know the characters.
Ann Darrow, an out of work vaudeville actress, blonde slim and pretty (gosh I hate her, only joking), she is played by Naomi Watts. Well, she grew on me, she is virtually the star of the show and a very good actress, she played her part really well, you could see from the expressions on her face, the love she felt for both Kong and Jack.
Carl Denham, plays a struggling movie maker, who was about to be kicked out of the movie business and loose his funding. Played by Jack Black. I found him obnoxious, but I believe that was the effect they wanted to make you feel. He was an ambitious man who did not care who got hurt or even lost their lives, as long as he got what he wanted. So lie down please and let him walk all over you.
Jack Driscoll, writer who finds himself in love with our leading lady and a hero of sorts. Played by Adrien Brody. Well Jack is our silent hero, the writer, the quiet silent type, that most people would not give a second glance too. Ann Darrow fell in love with him and he with her, he climbed mountains and faced all kinds of terrors throughout his journey through the jungle to save the girl. Wow he can save me any day.
Captain Englehorn a slightly unscrupulous captain of the ship - played by Thomas Kretschmann. - He would take the odd back-hander, he had a reputation of stealing wild animals and bringing them back into the country. Plus, an awful lot of chloroform, enough for a zoo or at least Kong.
There were other actors that added to the movie. But in my opinion the above 4 and Kong were the obvious main characters.
The film was done very much in keeping with the 1933 original, Carl Denham comes across Ann Darrow when she is starving and down on her luck, he convinces her over a hot meal, that she is the actress he is looking for and she will work with the famous writer Jack Driscoll. With this she follows him onto the very dubious (in my opinion) ship and heads off towards her destiny! She thinks they are heading for Singapore.
