Writing can improve your life in many different ways. Even though the rewards will not be obvious from the start, there will however be extremely important for your well being, for the entire course of your life. One of those rewards is self-discipline.
How writing improves self-discipline
1. Helps you get organised
When writing, you absolutely have to get organised. You need to decide on what you are going to write and how much time this is going to take you. It will necessary to specify the research that needs to be conducted, as well as the sources that are going to be needed for it. If you have other obligations to meet, you are going to have to decide on a specific time and day for them.Creating folders for your writing assignments as well as keeping several copies of them for safety reasons but also establishing a good portfolio a necessity that will become an integral part of your life as a writer.
2. Helps you set priorities
Being a writer means that you need to set priorities in your life and stick to them no matter what. Contrary to what many people seem to believe, being a writer does not mean that you can wake up any time you want, work whenever you feel is more convenient for you and take several long breaks in the meantime. In order to be successful as a writer, you need to make writing one of your main priorities in your life and learn to treat it as a serious job, instead of a hobby you can turn to whenever you have nothing better to do. Once you decide that writing is going to be one of the main priorities in your life, you will also have to decide on the other priorities in your life. Make a top 5 list of all the things that are more important to you and make a conscious effort to honor those priorities in your daily life. Those priorities may be related to writing (such as meetings with other writers on weekly basis, attend book signings once every two weeks and travel once every month to different places to broaden your horizons) or have nothing to do with them (such as visiting your family and hanging out with friends at least once a week, going to the gym twice a week and paying all of your bills on a specific date each month).
3.Helps you concentrate
Whether you write fiction or non fiction, in order to produce high quality work within specific deadlines given to you by your clients or publishers, it is necessary to sharpen your concentration skills. You need to be in fine tune with the characters you have create and understand where they are headed at. You need to be as concise and specific when trying to provide useful information. The above can be accomplished only if you have learnt how to concentrate fast and well. Writing makes you go down that road and you have to be willing to follow.
Writing improves self-discipline in several ways. Make the most of them all, to become a better writer and produce work of top-notch quality.
