Poetry: Instincts

by Jishi Santos

Created on: July 13, 2010

Instincts are innate and created

within the design of living being,

many genes are inter-related

to build the instincts we are seeing.

Animals, fishes, birds, insects, all silent

about the instincts they use to guide,

but they know the exact moment

to act upon the feeling inside.

How do the birds know when to migrate?

How does a humpback know where to travel?

The seasons decide their earthly fate,

their instincts are too subtle to unravel.

We humans too have instincts

but we twist them differently,

we are hunters and guard our precincts

and don't use them with nature's  beauty.

The animal kingdom is to learn about

and as humans we should take note,

many times we rush and shout

and softer instincts we should promote.

For instincts were built in

from the moment we were born,

use them wisely use them to win

the prize of peace within each morn.

Instinct, precinct, are they vanishing?

If we let them yes they are,

so hang on to all that's diminishing

and don't hide behind your avatar.
