Iraq has been a lost cause and quagmire since Bush and Cheney declared war on it via completely false pretenses. Let's look at the facts to uncover why we (the federal government) succeeded in invading Iraq and why we will never hear "mission accomplished" about it ever again. Additionally, I would like to conclude by adding remarks about the war in Afghanistan.
Note: From time to time, I will change from my point of view to the POV of others, to better capture the essence and add a dash of humor. Make no mistake, though: this is not satire.
The general public is, sadly, very open to propaganda, spin and even lies by the Fed. Case in point: First, they claimed Saddam was harboring that nasty 'ole Bin Laden. ‘Better mobilize the troops and send 'em in-avant garde-to get him.’ Well, that like never panned out. The administration waits a few days and decide that, EUREKA!, there must be weapons of mass destruction around that country somewhere, after all! Saddam is a evil, ruthless dictator who hates the United States, just like North Korea’s Kim Jong il. ‘Mobilize the troops and scramble the fighters, this lie is bound to win us support with our hardcore, gun-totin’ conservatives! With the support of the IAEA, we're bound to find some dirt on this man.’
Never mind international treaties such as the United Nations Security Council Resolution #1674. Never mind that ongoing ethnic cleansing and genocide rages-on in Somalia and Darfur. No, those do not count because they sit atop no oil…err, they must not have enough terrorists.
Hmmm, no WMD’s. “This is shocking, we so hoped to had found them there”. Bush “Well, while we’re there we can go ahead and dispose of the bad, bad leader-that should give us pretty good leverage.”
So we rounded-up every last soldier and M-16 to ship off-to Iraq. Shock and awe indeed goes down, as does many a mosque, palace and basically much of the infrastructure. Where's Saddam, though? Our leaders tell us we have to find the bad man and bring him to justice. As it turns out, 'ole Saddam-that fearless, heartless and rules-with-an-iron fist character-was squatting in a tiny hole in the ground. Had it not been for the genocide and the atrocities he committed towards his own people, I would have almost felt sorry for him-that's beside the point, though.
So now we have liberated the great people of Iraq. Bush "I've got a stunt that will have 'em all shocked
