The movie (and now subsequent book), "The Secret" has come under fire recently, due in part because of increased TV air time and media attention. Having seen the movie shortly after it's release in 2006, I wanted to unlock the diary and breathe clarity into "The Secret".
"The Secret", from creator Rhonda Byrne, with it's cast of heavy hitters, form Jack Canfield ("Chicken Soup For The Soul"), John Gray, Ph. D. ("Men Are From Mars and Women Are From Venus") to Dr. Fred Alan Wolf ("What The BLEEP Do We Know"), is a documentation of sorts, without using plot, character development or a traditional storyline. That said, it is not without entertainment value.
The film begins with an upfront explanation of what the secret is, the Law of Attraction, and uses the remaining hour and half to look at practical ways a person may want to apply it; Heath, Wealth, Relationships, You, The World, and Life. All practical ways one might want to "attract" something. While it is true "The Secret" is pre-occupied with trying to reach a broad-base of viewers, does still does an effective job of explaining, why some people seem to have a better life than others.
And While it lacks the hopeful Hollywood cinematic "eye candy" many viewers have come to expect, it delivers an exceptional opportunity to do something not as common: Think.
As a Headhunter-turned-entrepreneur, bucking the corporate system and opening myself up to criticism personally, I've since have learned to expect below-the-belt attacks, asking to justify my rationale. My knee-jerk reaction each time I hear someone from the naysayer camp ranting how self help doesn't work is: Alright, recruit me to living your life. Sell me on why I should listen to your negative attitude.
The painful truth I inevitably find, is that it's easier for negative people to take potshot attacks at self-help and self-betterment topics, than to simply look in the mirror. If you're against movies and books like "The Secret", believing they're so wrong, what alternative do you suggest? American Idol? CSI: Miami? The Simpsons? I mean, get real When was the last time a re-run of "Friends" changed the world?
How has it become such a turn-off to want a good and positive lifestyle? Or even a wealthy and abundant life, for that matter. Because when you look under a magnifying glass at all the things people could want and you'll find everybody wants something. Be it monetary or spiritually, a Porsche or inner-peace, we're all seeking. It's refreshing to have
