Recipes: Hamburgers

by AngelaWhite

Created on: July 12, 2010

What you will need:

A grill, heated and ready to cook

2 pounds of hamburger

1 large onion(diced)

1 large green pepper(diced)

1 clove garlic(diced)

ketchup

salt and pepper

1 egg(unbeaten)

1 full pack saltine crackers, crushed

First, gather all of the things you will need to make meatloaf burgers on the grill, including paper towels for wiping your hands, bowls, and spoons.

Start by combining the onion, the green pepper, the garlic, and the crushed crackers. Stir them lightly. Add the salt and pepper and a light layer of ketchup. Roughly 1/2 a cup. Mix it all lightly, then pour the beaten egg over the mixture and crumble the hamburger into it. Combine all the ingredients thoroughly, usually three minutes. Folding the mixture into itself will give a nicely speckled meat paste appearance and let the flavors of the vegetables cook into the meat from the inside.

Next, form large patties, an inch thick and the size of your palm. Set them on a plate and keep making patties until the mixture is used up. Additional seasonings should be used now, depending on your preference. Suggested, are basil, parsley, mushrooms, chili powder, mustard, and barbecue sauce. Place the meatloaf burgers on the grill and cook them on low heat for 30-40 minutes, checking them every ten minutes, as grill temperatures may vary.

Flip the meatloaf burgers once, half way through cooking, squeezing them out flat with a stiff spatula.

Tip: Running mat juice will cause flames to flare up. Be careful to avoid being burned. Keep the grill lid closed to hold in heat and flavors.

Remove the meatloaf burgers from the grill when their center is no longer pink and allow them to sit for 1 to 2 minutes, to allow the juices to settle back in to the meat. Serve with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, on large buns, or use as a main course and serve on top of fresh garlic bread with a light spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese over the top.

This recipe serves 2 to 10 people, depending on how much hamburger is added and the size of the grill. It can also be made using ground turkey, ham, or soy type products.

Other ingredients to try:

Mushrooms, hot peppers, oatmeal instead of crackers, cornflakes instead of crackers, tomato soup instead of ketchup,(For the inside only. Ketchup always goes on the top.) and cheese. American is recommended.
