Poetry: A mother's prayer

by Yvette Durham

Created on: July 12, 2010

Dear God,

You have shown me the depths of love through blessed motherhood:

Having children has revived my Soul like nothing else could.

I pray my son and daughter walk in faith, always towards You

And when they fall to doubt, You’ll dust them off and carry them through.

May their happiness stem from within, derived from simple pleasures,

Not from society’s standards- material gain- and such measures.

Let my children celebrate their Spirits; honor its desires,

Let them relish their life purpose before time expires.

I hope their lives are rich in travel, adventure and self-growth,

Let neither succumb to complaisance, bitterness or sloth.

I pray, Dear God, that my children pivot their lives around Love:

And that You’ll melt into soft smiles as you watch them from above.
