Scrunchies have made a comeback in the style stakes, they are no longer seen as the domain of little girls, but they have now become a style must have. Scrunchies can be made really easily and with a little bit of practise they can be made really quickly, so in no time at all, your friends will be begging you to make them a whole collection of scrunchies as well!
To make a scrunchie you will need
You will need: 20cm x14cm fabric.
Needle and matching thread.
15 cm thin elastic
Pins
Scissors
Step 1: You will need to start by clearing a large work surface for yourself and lay your fabric out flat, smooth out as many wrinkles as possible with your hand, depending on the material you may want to iron it to remove all of the wrinkles.
Step 2:Next,measure out 20cm X 14cm on your fabric and mark this with tailors chalk or water soluble pen and cut it out using good quality scissors, use small smooth strokes to ensure a smooth line.Do not lift the fabric up into the air, the scissors and the fabric should remain on the table at all times.
Step 3: Put the right sides of the fabric together and fold it in half length ways, pin it together allowing a 10mm seam.
Step 4: Sew along one one of the long sides of the fabric using a machine or a needle and thread (a sewing machine is quicker), use small stitches, this will help to maintain the strength of the scrunchie and ensure that it does not become loose. You can always add another row of stitches on top if necessary.
Step 5: Next you will need to press the seam you just created open and then turn the fabric out to so the right sides are showing.
Step 6: Thread the elastic through the fabric and stitch the other long side of the fabric together using the same small stitches.
Step 7: Gather the fabric up along the length of the elastic until it is bunched, this will give you an idea of the effect of the finished scrunchie.
Step 8:Next, you will need to turn under 10mm fabric at one end, sew the ends of the elastic together and then stitch the ends of the fabric together
Whilst this does seem time consuming at first, once you have made one you can really get the hang of it and soon you will be making them in a matter of minutes.
