We have all experienced it at some time or another: the tossing, the turning, the misery of being unable to fall asleep despite the fact we are tired and worn out. Whether it be one night every now and then or every night of the week we need to know the answers to why we are lacking our ability to go to sleep when we hit the mattress. So what are the exact reasons you are losing sleep. There can be a number of reasons or just one that is really keeping you awake.
* Stress and/or anxiety are very common elements that keep many people awake at night. No matter how tired the body is if the minds gears are still turning you can't fall asleep. Some of the more common stress factors that keep us awake at night include our jobs, money, family problems, etc. Anxiety can also stem from those stresses as well as the adrenaline you may have flowing from just winning that video game you was playing right before bed. The best way to deal with stress and/or anxiety is to try to get it under control before bed time. If you have had a terrible fight with a loved one try to make amends before time to go to sleep or if the job is not going well think of ways that you can try to make it better. Over all try to clear any worries or anxieties out of your mind before you lay your head on your pillow. A few other ideas on how to relax that you may want to try are relax before bed time by turning off the TV or computer and reading a book or magazine. The flashing lights from the screens of TV's and computers keep our brain stimulated which is what you do not want before you go to bed. Clear your mind and think only good thoughts as you relax.
* If you consume a lot of soft drinks or other caffeine products before bed you may find that you can not rest. Caffeine is a wake me upper not a put me to sleeper. Once you are within at least 3 hours of you bed time stop consuming caffeine drinks and drink some alternative. Some great drinks to drink right before bed are warm milk or tea. There are some teas on the market today that are made especially to drink before you go to bed. If you do not like warm milk or tea consider drinking water.
* Eat meals and heavy snacks at least 4-5 hours before going to bed. If you go to bed with a full stomach of heavy food you are not going to be able to rest. You should consider not eating anything at all at least an hour before bed. If you must eat right before bed eat something light such as a few crackers, chips, etc. You want to avoid eating
