The best superpower for a superhero

by Wiley Abt

Created on: July 12, 2010

Though all of those who ave answered this question before me had decent answers (with special mention to all those who said high powered telekinesis and/or transmutation), none of these are the most powerful super power.  I am going to borrow another writers definition of "super power" to explain myself.

1) A super power must be a clearly defined power, meaning that it must be an actual ability or trait of the one who possesses it, not just an idea like "the power to end world hunger".

2) A superpower must be something unique or at least extraordinarily rare to the person possessing it. So in other words, it has to be something that makes you more than human instead of just an exemplary human.

That being said, i believe that the most powerful possible power is the ability to control and manipulate probabilities.  Though at first glance you may think that this power limits you to such things as cheating at casinos and winning lotteries, you would be dead wrong.  What makes this power so incredible is that everything has a probability attached to it, for example, let's say you are walking along in a field and there is a boulder in front of you.  Now the probability that this boulder exists is very high, which is why you perceive it as existing in the first place.  But you have the ability to manipulate  ANY and ALL probability. This means that you can, if you so pleas make said boulder vanish, split it in half, copy it, make it have never existed in all history, turn it into a purple elephant named spot that will serve as your loyal steed, and much much more. With this ability you also do not have to worry about the lays of physics because your power isn't physical, it's metaphysical.  Not to mention, you can also span matter into existence with no warning, meaning all of your actions can follow cartoon logic if need be.  And the last benefit i am going to state about this power is that you can give yourself any number of other powers in addition to this one by warping your own probability values.

The only drawbacks that I see in this power is that you are capable of royally messing up the space-time continuum if you get carried away, and that having that level of power would cause the bearer to become detached and somewhat unconcerned with other humans.

In conclusion, I think that this is the most powerful power because of the lack of drawbacks to it and that, because of its nature, it is infinitely modifiable, and so can be used in any situation.
