Money saving tips for summer

by Tom Geoffroy

Created on: July 12, 2010

During those lazy, hazy, days of summer, you can enjoy all the season has to offer without killing your bank account. Here are some summer saving tips you can take advantage of.

• Fire up the grill.

Instead of cooking meals indoors and adding more heat for your air conditioner to cool off, grill outside on a gas or charcoal grill. It is much cheaper to cook outside and keep your house cool.

• Replace air filters often.

Keeping a clean air filter in your air conditioner will help it run more efficiently and save you money. A one dollar filter could save you fifty times that by the end of the month.

• Use florescent light bulbs.

The new energy efficient florescent light bulbs last much longer and burn much cooler. Less energy is used while giving you light and they do not add more heat to an already hot house.

• Spend vacation time close to home.

Almost every community has a local park. Take advantage of the local, state and national parks near you. You might as well take advantage of all you have already paid for through your tax dollars. Traveling close to home saves money on gas, lodging and food costs. Discover the all the great fun things to do in your own neighborhood.

• Buy summer clothes in the summer.

Don’t buy your summer wardrobe in the spring time when they first come on the market. Take advantage of summer sales in June and save up to 70 % off the regular price. You will look great and feel even better knowing you saved big.

• Enjoy tailgating.

When going to amusement parks bring your own food. You can save a bundle by eating your own delicious food in the picnic area or parking lot of most amusement parks. The price of food inside the park is many times what you can provide for yourself.

• Back to school items.

Get together with other parents and share the cost of back to school supplies from a bulk warehouse. Most items like pens, pads, crayons and such are all cheaper when you buy in bulk. When you share the cost there is big savings for everyone.

• Enjoy the summer.

These are just a few suggestions for you to take advantage of and save money. The most important thing about summer is to get out there and enjoy yourself with your family. Slow down and take it all in knowing you are not burning through a lot of cash. One more thing. Use sun screen. While you don’t want to burn through your cash, you don’t want to burn your skin either. Now start to relax.
