Moe's Original BBQ is good ole Southern BBQ and Moe's prides itself on being Southern and serving Southern style food.  Moe's started in 1988 at the University of Alabama.  Three friends who had a common love for BBQ, Blues, College Football and Beer started Moe's in Tuscaloosa.  Mike Fernandez, Ben Gilbert, and Jeff Kennedy started Moe's when Mike hooked up with Moses Day and learned the process of fire roasting meats.  Moses Day's distinct BBQ flavor was the talk of Tuscaloosa and it is the recipes that Moe's Original BBQ is based on.  They use fruit wood and two different sauces.  The three guys also had a love for the mountains and ended up opening a Moe's in Vail Colorado.  They were very successful and now have six locations in Colorado, ten locations in Alabama and one in Georgia and one in North Carolina with more in the works.  The have been in business in Colorado for nine years and have six successful restaurants and have no debt.  That's pretty good in this day and age.

Moe's for some reason doesn't do beef but they have pork, ribs, chicken, turkey plus fried shrimp, Southern fried catfish, Blackened Maui Maui and Smoked Tofu.  I have had everything but the Tofu.  I will not be able to tell you about that.  The rest of it is outstanding.

Moe's sandwiches are all $5.25 and are served with pickle and red sauce or "Bama" style with pickle, marinated Cole slaw and red and white sauce.  Moe's sandwich platters come with two sides and a drink for $8.35.  You can add 3 wings, 2 ribs, or pork, chicken or turkey for $2.75.  Moe's Platters are $9.25 and are served with cornbread, 2 sides and a drink.  Those old boys know how to make cornbread.  You can get pulled pork, 1/2 smoked chicken, Smoked turkey, Wings, or some delicious Southern Fried Catfish.  The catfish is served with some darned good hush puppies.  A platter combo is one of my favorites.  It is served with cornbread, two sides, and a drink.  They have really good Southern Sweet Tea.  Two meats are $11.50.  Three meats are $13.50.  I usually get  chicken and pulled pork with baked beans and there darned good Banana Pudding.  I also really like their half rack of ribs with cornbread, two sides and ice tea for $12.50.   You can get a basket of a full pound of good chicken wings for $6.50.

Moe's Original BBQ has everything on their menu to go by the pound or by the pint.  Pork, Chicken or Turkey are $11.00 a pound.  A rack of ribs is $20 or a pound of wings is $6.50.  Sides, which include great baked beans, marinated cole slaw, potato salad, Banana Pudding and Cornbread.  Sides are $1.50 a cup, $2.75 a half pint, or $5.50 for a full pint.  Cornbread comes by the piece or by the pan.

These Alabama Boys know how to make some good BBQ and cook up some good grub.  When you are in Denver or up a Vail skiing and get the craving for some good BBQ give Moe's Original BBQ a try.
