Do you need help finding a job that you actually want to have? Are you wondering where to look? Are you having a hard time deciding what positions to apply for? Do you always get to the interview and then never get a second call? For some, finding a job can be a real nightmare. Here are some tips on the steps to landing a job that you will actually enjoy and be proud of.
WHERE TO LOOK
When looking for a job, you have to look in every possible place. The newspaper can be useful and is often the initial step in the job search. However, it is by far,not the only place you should be looking. The internet can be a valuable tool when looking for a job. Here are some sites that list job openings.
* Yahoo Hot Jobs a popular general listing of open positions in your area.
* Career Builder allows you to build a profile by adding resumes and cover letters. Employers use this site in their search as well.
* Monster allows you to build a profile that includes your resume. Employers looking for candidates also use this site.
* Snag-a-Job lists hourly jobs in your area. Allows you to create a profile for filling out applications.
* Indeed and Simply Hired are sites that list job openings from a variety of different sites including the ones listed above.
If you are or have attended a college, try looking on your college's web site. Many companies list their open positions on local colleges sites to gain access to educated candidates. This is also a place where there are very few, if any, scams.
If you are interested in a certain company, try going to their website to find open positions. Many companies only advertise on their own sites. They receive so much traffic through it that they do not have the need to advertise anywhere else. Hospitals are a great example of this. They employ people from a multitude of professions and often list these openings on their own site. So, if you were interested in finding a job as a medical biller, looking on your local hospital's site would be worth your while to do.
Cold calling is yet another technique you can use to scope out unadvertised job openings in your area. Try calling companies that you would be interested in working for. Ask to speak to their hiring manager. When put on the phone with the manager, tell them what you are interested in and then ask if they would accept your resume. If they day yes, make sure to ask for the address and who you should address the attention line
